Music Instruction - Playing Electric Bass Guitar
Teaching Electric Bass Guitar
I have been a professional musician since 1980. I’ve been hired to play mainstream jazz, Latin jazz, funk/smooth jazz, R&B, soul, rock and country music. I've played on cruise ships, theater shows, recording sessions, and telethons and many other stages in North America. I perform with my own bands and free-lance with many groups as a side man. I’ve been a member of the Musicians’ Association of Ottawa-Gatineau, local 180, since 1990 (Started as a member in the Toledo Ohio Local 15-286 in 1985).
I received my formal musical training at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio studying percussion.
I've been teaching privately since 1982 where many of my students have gone on to study music in university and play professionally.
In my personal lessons we focus on the role of the bass in many different areas, learn to improvise, learn music theory, and read music. We perform rock, pop or jazz classics. Unlike some music stores I teach from my studio, equipped with my computer and amps - stocked with hundreds of instructional mp3s, music books and materials.
What I teach and what I have to say are my ideas and my concepts. A lot of those concepts come from different places. Some from trial and error - just from trying things a million different ways and realizing that some of it works and some of it doesn't. Some of it is based on efficiency & logic, and economy of motion. Some of it is musical tradition – things being passed down – experienced and inexperienced people making suggestions and showing me how to do different things.
