Here’s a terrific live performance of “Rio Funk”, with Abraham Laboriel with Lee Ritenour’s band. The guys have some fun goofing around at the beginning, before getting into seriously funky territory. Great bass doesn’t need to be flashy. Sometimes, it just needs to groove. It is a performance in Earth Voice Concert held in Japan in May 16,1992. The fabulous Marvin Gaye singing a great version of his classic "Let's Get It On" in Montreux Jazz Festival. 2 bassists, one great groove. John Mayer with Pino Palladino & David Labruyere: I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) - Adept at both upright and electric bass, Charnett Moffett is a bassist to be reckoned with. Here, he showcases electric chops and improvisatory skills on his tune “Enlightenment,” for which he utilizes a piccolo bass. Tower of Power - Leverkusen Jazz Festival, Leverkusen, Germany - 9/13/09
Here’s a great isolated bass track showcasing James Jamerson‘s work with The Four Tops. As you’ll hear, this wasn’t really all that isolated, with drums and sax clearly in the mix. |
